Joel Ancheta is fascinated by all things visual... and a Photographer. Born and raised in between Guam and Los Angeles, he was introduced to Art at an early age by his Mother’s friend who was holding a summer Art clinic.  Having also been a musician playing live shows for over a decade, he has found influence through the energy of the people and learned to channel that energy onto the visual mediums. Before the age of 18 his father gave him the opportunity to be a Video Editor.  This led to the use of Photoshop and soon finding Photography at the Academy of Art University.

Joel Ancheta is fascinated by the visuals... and a PhotographerCreativity has always been around in the household; whether it was cameras, lenses, magazines, and art supplies on the coffee table, accompanied by the warm tunes playing through analog speakers.

Since then he has been commissioned as a Videographer under tbs-j.com and guamtv.net who have coordinated  acts such as Japanese idol girl group AKB48, he has also done photojournalism for guampdn.com.

Artist Statement

Through the likes of Chema Madoz, Paul Outerbridge and Pop Art I like to take a minimalist approach. Using mostly solid color backgrounds I can isolate my subject more and can compose in a way where the frame is balanced throughout. I tend to like bolder and vibrant colors and the colors are utilized in frame as part of my composition. I like to add illustrative visual cues like rain droplets and studio window frames, to add more narrative. I like to use how the subject makes me feel and illustrate that feeling through the final image.

Through the likes of Chema Madoz, Paul Outerbridge, and Irving Penn, I like to take a minimalist approach with a touch of conceptual thought. Using mostly solid color backgrounds I can isolate my subject more and can compose in a way where the frame is balanced throughout. I tend to like bolder and vibrant colors which are utilized in frame as part of my expression. I like to add illustrative visual cues like rain droplets and window frames, to add more narrative. I like to use how the subject makes me feel and illustrate that feeling through the final image.
